origins can be traced back to the 1890’s. |
The Royal Enfield Bullet dates back to the 1930's.
Used by the Indian army for border patrol in deserts, tropical forests & 6000m high mountain passes, with such success & demand, a factory was built in Madras, India.
The Bullet has been produced in Madras continually since 1955, with small upgrades to meet local laws of various countries they are exported to.

In 1994 the Eicher Group (huge Indian conglomerate producing, trucks, tractors, buses, industrial gears, clothing & management consultancy) took over Enfield India & has since invested heavily in completely revamping the factory with special attention to quality control, with a view to greatly expanding the export market.
The Royal Enfields imported to Australia are the special export variety which are produced at the factory to meet all Australian Design Rules so a compliance plate can be fitted (a prerequisite for registration to ride locally). These bikes come with two year warranty.
In 2009 the Bullet iron barrell classic and the Bullet Electra X were replaced with the new unit construction EFI models. These bikes use the same dimension 84 x 90mm bore & stroke, and with a heavy flywheel retain the great torque characteristics and thump of the old 500 singles.
While using Keihen fuel injection, hydraulic valve lifters, electronic ignition, automatic decompressor & automatic primary chain adjuster, have given the new model a modest increase in power with reduced service time.
The EFI Bullets are LAMS approved. See more on the Bullet EFI page.
